Trio show: Sat, May 20 at In Bocca Al Lupo in Glover Park (7:00 to 10:00)

The great people behind the Chevy Chase Italian favorite I'm Eddie Cano, have opened a great new restaurant in Glover Park, not far from the National Cathedral.  As you can see from this article, they are serious about their Roman-style pizza.  In addition to pizza, there's a wide range of Italian specialties, and a few of the neighborhood favorites have been brought down from Chevy Chase (like the addictive fried zucchini).  Best of all, they have built a little stage, and they are now hosting local music!
Unfortunately, Andrew sliced his first finger on his left hand while building a new bass, and that finger is pretty essential for playing upright bass.  So he's on the temporary disabled list.  So we'll be playing this Saturday as a trio with Aura singing, Lou on Guitar, and Franklin on trumpet.  We'll play two sets starting around 7:00 and 8:30ish.  So make reservations for 15 to 30 minutes before one of these two sets to ensure you are settled before the music starts.  And be sure to ask to sit near the band so you are in the front part of the restaurant with good sight lines.  See you there!

Two surprises this week: Thursday at Bocca and our last show at Romano on Saturday

On Thursday, April 27 starting at 6:30, Aura and Lou will be playing as a vocal/guitar duo at In Bocca Al Lupo in Glover Park, not far from the National Cathedral.  We've played there on two Saturdays so far as a full band, but this will be our first time in that room as a quieter duo.  We have tons of original and cover tunes we never play with the full band, built up from many months of duo gigs in Aura’s front yard during the height of lockdown — our neighborhood friends will find this a nostalgic treat, and we love a chance to distill our tunes down to pure vocals and guitar.  And as you can see from this article, our friends at Bocca are serious about their Roman-style pizza and offer a wide range of Italian specialties.  We really respect the efforts Bocca is making to support local music, and we've heard that Thursdays tend not to be as crowded as Saturday nights, so we'd love to help bring a crowd out for the good people at Bocca.

And for something a little sentimental, we just learned that Romano Vineyard & Winery is closing soon, so this Saturday April 29 (2:00-5:00) will be our last time there.  Come join us for a goodbye to owners Joseph and Jo-Ann who are retiring at the end of June.  And don't worry about rain.  If it rains (which it probably will), they have a nice cozy room in back with lots of wine and music to keep you warm.  This little Napa Valley style oasis will really be missed.

Make reservations now for Saturday at In Bocca Al Lupo!

Saturday, April 8 at In Bocca Al Lupo in Glover Park (7:30 to 10:00)

(2400 Wisconsin Ave, NW; 202-750-7939)  The great people behind the Chevy Chase Italian favorite I'm Eddie Cano, have opened a great new restaurant in Glover Park, not far from the National Cathedral. We played our first show there in January, and it was quite a scene.  We'll try to top it in April.  We have at least one drummer joining us, a first-timer named Alexey.  He's never played with us before, not even a rehearsal, so it should be interesting.  Also, I just heard that our original drummer Lex O'brien is in town, and we'll try to get him to join for a song or two.  And Franklin says he might show up with his trumpet.  Make reservations now!  If there's a gap in available reservations (like from 7:30 to 8:00), don't worry about that.  The restaurant does that so that a massive crowd doesn't all show up at once and overwhelm the staff right at the beginning of our set.  We'll probably play two sets starting around 7:30 and 9:00ish.  So make reservations for 15 to 30 minutes before one of these two sets to ensure you are settled before the music starts.  And be sure to ask to sit near the band so you are in the front part of the restaurant with good sight lines.  See you there!

Recording in March...Back on stage in April!

We're finally focusing on recording over at Mike's studio, and I'm really liking the sounds that are coming out of his speakers.  Hopefully, we'll have something to share soon.   No more shows for the rest of March due to some work travel and general hecticness, but we'll be back in April.  See the shows page for details.  And check out our new instagram page if you're not already following us.  We'll add some short videos this month…

Saturday Feb 11 at Meadworks!

We'll be back at this cozy little room next Saturday with Franklin on trumpet.  We are really hoping some of the huge Glover Park crowd will drive about 5 miles east to join us for another Saturday night.  Click on the shows page for lots of details.

Get reservations now for Saturday, Jan 28 at In Bocca Al Lupo in Glover Park (7:00 to 10:00)!

The great people behind the Chevy Chase Italian favorite I'm Eddie Cano, have opened a great new restaurant in Glover Park, not far from the National Cathedral (2400 Wisconsin Ave, NW; 202-750-7939).  CLICK HERE to make a reservation and ensure that you don't have to wait for a table.  If you want to be sure you have a table for the early set at 7:00, you'll need to make a 6:30 reservation.  For the later sets, you can make reservations at 7:45 or later.  Walk-ins are welcome anytime, but you might have to wait for a table.

As you can see from this article, they are serious about their Roman-style pizza.  Lou has personally tried it, and he fully approves.  In addition to pizza, there's a wide range of Italian specialties, and a few of the neighborhood favorites have been brought down from Chevy Chase (like the addictive fried zucchini).  Best of all, they have built a little stage, and they are starting to host local music!  Aura, Lou, and Andrew will all be there.  It's a small stage in a small room, so we'll probably do this one without drums.  Watch this space for news on any other band members.  We're hoping Franklin might be back on trumpet (He came over for some practice recently, and he sounded as great as ever).

Saturday, December 3: Happy Go Bikes in Chevy Chase DC (4:00 pm)

We’ll be playing Saturday afternoon as part of the Spark Art Fest and Small Business Party on our little stretch of Connecticut Ave.  We’ll be taking over my favorite bike store in the universe: Happy Go (5516 Connecticut Ave NW).  On my visits for bike repairs, I’ve told the owner Ben that he has great acoustics in his small space, and I’d love to hear what my guitar sounds like bouncing off the walls and high ceiling.  So when he called a couple of days ago to ask if we could do this, I quickly said yes.  Aura, Andrew, and I will be playing this one as a trio.

Ben says there will be some sort of refreshments, but the details are still mysterious (he’s mentioned hot drinks and champaign, among other ideas that may or may not happen).  There will be some benches set up, but if you want to be sure you can sit and be comfortable, Ben recommends bringing your own lawn chairs or something like that.  I’m hoping this will feel a lot like our front lawn neighborhood shows - very casual, and we're open to requests and neighborhood guests.  We'll start at 4:00 and play for at least an hour, maybe longer if we're having fun.  It would be great if some of you could come join us.

Hello from Asia!

Work is keeping us far away from music for the first half of November.  Actually, VERY far away with Lou in Japan and Aura in Cambodia.  We'll be returning to DC and the band soon though.  Two shows for November and December have just been added to the shows page.

And we'll be adding some new videos to instagram soon, so if you haven't started following us yet, now would be a great time!  We finally joined instagram last month, so now we have to find some followers.  Help us get the word out if you can.  See you soon!

Video for "Part-Time Island Girl"...

Click here to check out the video we made earlier this year.  This little song that seems perfect for the gray rainy day outside as I'm typing this.

Band Brulee has finally arrived at the 21st century and joined Instagram.  So now we have to actually find some followers.  If you're on the 'gram, please come follow us - @bandbrulee.

Check out the shows page for some winery dates later this month, and we have a little time for some more outdoor gigs before winter hits.  So count us in if your neighborhood needs some front porch or block party music...
